Wonderful last-meeting-of-the-year today guys, especially with the twenty fire drills and all.
Thanks to those of you who helped out with the Border's fundraiser; we raised over $200!
We hope you picked up a Soup Plantation flyer from Jenny today. The date has been changed to this Wednesday (tomorrow, Dec. 15) due to yet another screwup by ASB, but hopefully we'll see you there.
On other news, turn in cards and Yogurt lids to officers before the week is over. Caroling is this Sunday on the 19th.
Have a great winter break!

2010 12 07 Meeting
Today we took semi-preorders for T-shirts, just to see how many of you are interested. There's no need to pay yet, as we've yet to finalize the costs. After much hassle, we picked a light pink T-shirt with Beverly's design in black.
Soupplantation restaurant is next Thursday. Make sure to bring a flyer, and pass them out to all of your friends and family as well!
Also, Border's gift-wrapping is this weekend Saturday and Sunday, and we will be representing American Cancer Society. We'll see you there!
Next Saturday is caroling, so please please please make holiday cards (keep it generic and nondenominational). Next meeting, we will also be creating stocking stuffers.
All yogurt lids are also due next week, so please bring them if you have any.
Finally, if you have any ideas for our Relay for Life viral video, please let us know!
Have a nice week!

Walk for Hope Details
Hi guys!
To all of you who are going to Walk for Hope, here's just a recap on what we talked about on Tuesday (and a bit of extra info that we mindlessly forgot to mention).
Hopefully you've all received your Walk for Hope numbers by now. Don't forget to bring it! There is a t-shirt ticket/attachment on there that you need in order to redeem your free t-shirt :)
Hopefully you've all received your Walk for Hope numbers by now. Don't forget to bring it! There is a t-shirt ticket/attachment on there that you need in order to redeem your free t-shirt :)
Event Details
Address:
City of Hope
1500 E. Duarte Rd.
Duarte, CA 91010
Arrival/Registration/Check-In: 8:00 am (try to arrive earlier!)
Walk Begins: 10:00 am
Event Ends: 12:00 pm (roughly)
So basically, you get there and walk in via Gate 8. Don't worry, there will be signs, blockades, and police people pretty much directing you where to go. As you walk in, hopefully you will see some of the officers near the registration booths, holding up HCCC signs.
- If you are a returning walker, aka you're pretty much pro and know what to do, feel free to just ditch us (you don't need to meet up with us) in the morning. Just go do your thing and have some fun with your friends!
- If you are a new walker, and you'd like some direction and info, find us so we can pretty much tell you the event set-up and various things to do. It won't take long-- don't worry!
- ALL PARTICIPANTS: at around 9:45 am, City of Hope will gather every walker at the starting line to prepare for the walk at 10 am. As a team (Pink Apaches), we will all walk together. So, gather at our team sign around this time. The team signs will pretty much line the center divide of the road (you can't miss it). You just have to do a little work in finding the one that says "Pink Apaches" :)
- Don't forget to sign in with the club!!! This is our only way of knowing if you went and if you want hours for this event!
If, for whatever reason, you get lost or need help, here are our cell phone numbers:
Melody: (626) 755-4157
Elaine: (626) 841-1687
Last thing: if you or anyone you know wants to walk, you can still sign up! Register online for $40 or you can bring $40 to the event and register there.
Hope to see you all there!
-Elaine & Melody

10/26 Meeting
We hope you enjoyed the food (especially the Jell-O hands).
If you are signing up for Walk for Hope, please remember to fill out all four forms and turn them in to any of the officers. The registration fee is $25 but goes up to $40 after November 1st.
Also, feel free to make Halloween cards at home and give them to any officers before Friday for a service hour for every three you make.
And I don't remember much else because I was outside preparing the food. Sorry! :P

A great way to earn service hours, have fun, and get free stuff!
For hundreds of thousands who face women’s cancers each year, hope is a precious thing. These mothers, daughters, sisters and wives count on places like City of Hope, where award-winning care offers the chance to overcome disease and innovative research cultivates new, better therapies on the path to cures.
City of Hope needs help to save lives worldwide. For more than a decade, survivors, supporters and advocates for women’s health have answered the call, raising funds for research, treatment and education through Walk for Hope.
Walk for Hope culminates in a series of annual events held in eight cities nationwide. But it is powered by a year-round movement — tens of thousands of fundraisers, volunteers and donors dedicated to ending the devastation of women’s cancers.

10/05 Meeting
Thanks for everyone who came to our first club meeting! We hope to see you again next week and to spending an awesome year with you.
You learned about some events that we host, such as caroling, Walk for Hope, Comedy Night, and Relay for Life. We'd also like you to remember to collect yogurt lids for the Save Lids Save Lives program.
On a parting note: to fight cancer in the first place you need to believe that cancer can be cured, and it all starts with Hope.
See you next week!

Meeting- 4/20/2010
Hello Everyone!
Can you guys believe it? The year is almost over; we just got to fight through our CSTs, APs, and whatnot.
But, the ending of this year for our club also means it's time for officer elections! Last week, we posted up the tryout packets, and this upcoming Tuesday will be the election speeches. We need to fit in all candidate speeches at the meeting, so here are some guidelines:
• 5 min. maximum for those running for president
• 1 min. maximum for the other positions
Each candidate will make one speech regardless of the number of positions he/she is running for.
If you guys have any questions, please let us know! You can always e-mail us at hopecancurecancer@gmail.com.
As you can tell, this upcoming Tuesday, 4/27, will be a pretty big deal. So come participate in making your choice for next year's HCCC officers!
See you all!

Update- COMEDY SHOW-ARAMA!
Hi everyone!
The comedy show turnout was great, wasn't it? The HCCC officers want to thank the club members for promoting the event and selling tickets. We know selling tickets was difficult, but your effort is what counts! The crowd at the show was unbelievable, too! Thank you all for supporting the comedians- laughing, clapping, smiling, responding...all of that!!

That was seriously the best joke EVER!

Camera? What camera?
Thanks so much to the comedians for donating their time, and to the American Cancer Society (Scott and Sarah) for planning this event! I'd say it went quite well, whaddya think? =P
Get laughing for next year,
Jenny

Meeting- 3/16/2010
Hello everyone!
Comedy Show is next Friday! How's everyone's ticket sales going? I've gone around school to try to sell tickets, and I know that the process can be difficult. My advice? Persist. When people tell me they'll think about it or they'll check their schedule, I make sure to check up on them the next day! But the main thing is to let them know that for $7, they will not only be enjoying a night of laughs, but they will be contributing to the American Cancer Society.
Again, Comedy Show is Friday, 3/26 from 7~9 at First Ave's Auditorium.

Now, for some information...
• T-shirts- Please make sure to bring in your $10 if you have already received your club t-shirt. If you would like a t-shirt, please tell us or e-mail us at hopecancurecancer@gmail.com with your name and t-shirt size. We will probably be ordering another batch of shirts if there are enough requests. Plan to wear your t-shirts to the comedy show!
Thanks for reading everyone!
Keep selling those tickets! Trust me, the show is going to be great!

Meeting- 3/9/2010
Hi friends!
There was a lot of passing out this week, so make sure to e-mail us at hopecancurecancer@gmail.com if you were not able to attend this week's meeting!
• T-shirts- Our t-shirts came this week! The design is so detailed and definitely shows the meaning behind our club. We decided to let everyone receive their shirts this week, but if you have not paid, please make sure you bring $10 next week so our treasurer can check you off our list. Now that we have our shirts, it would be great if you guys could wear it to all our events! =)
• Comedy Show Tickets- This week we also assigned out five comedy show tickets to each club member to sell. Please keep track of all your tickets as they are all numbered and recorded with your names. Some helpful ways to sell these tickets include...
1. asking your English teacher to make this an extra credit event and let them e-mail us for questions to correspond to the event
2. spread the word about the American Cancer Society and let your peers know that all the money raised will be donated to ACS to aid in cancer research.
Remember tickets are $7 and the event is opened to all audiences! Have fun selling everyone!
Thanks for reading everyone! Please e-mail us if you have questions or concerns!

Hi all!
• T-shirts are coming next week! 3/9/2010. Again, they will be $10 each, and if you signed up for one please pick up the shirts by next week! We hope you guys will love them (and the price as well =P)
• Comedy Show is on 3/26/2010 at First Ave's Auditorium. The line up for the comedians is currently being scheduled. Our job as HCCC Club is to attract a super large audience! • This week, we mentioned some ideas about fundraisers! Please feel free to e-mail us with any suggestions at hopecancurecancer@gmail.com. Meeting- 2/23/2010
Hi club!
We have finalized some dates. Mark your calenders...
• T-shirts- Club t-shirts are currently being ordered and will be coming very soon! The prices have remained at $10, and it would be great if everyone could start bringing their money to the next meeting. The design this year is really great! Thanks again, Christina! =)
• 3/26 Comedy Show- Note this wonderful date because it is the day of our 2nd annual Comedy Show!! Last year was a huge hit. This year will be even better, but instead of being at our Little Theater, we will be holding it at First Avenue's auditorium! The stage there is great and those comfortable seats are shouting our names! Club members, get your sales cap on because we will be selling tickets really soon!
• Fundraiser: Yard Sale- The club officers are currently talking about the possibility of holding a yard sale to raise money for American Cancer Society. Please help us by looking around your house, and taking note of the items you will be willing to donate. Anything from small furniture, appliances, poster, CDs, DVDs, and clothes are all great! We really need your help with this, so come ready to share next week!
That's it for this week; see you all!

Hi team!
Specifically for this week....
• Pennies for Patients- This week, from Wednesday to Friday, is Pennies for Patients! Last week you all signed up for your preferred dates; now it's time to get out there and get those money boxes filled!=) When you guys go out for your shifts, please let students know the cause that they are supporting. We don't want them to think they are simply throwing their change into a box. So, thanks to you all in advance for helping out with this event!
• Movie Night- This Friday (6-9 PM) is Movie Night: My Sister's Keeper! To get your tickets, please seek the club officers or Mr. Tierno in F-7 anytime this week before school ends on Friday. Remember, tickets will be $3 each and the money will go to the American Cancer Society. The event will be at the Media Center at Temple City High School. (Address: 9501 Lemon Avenue, Temple City) Hope we see you all there for a fun night!!
See you guys next week!

Jenny

Hi everyone!
This month's activities:
• Friday, February 19th (6 PM- 9PM)- Movie Night: This is our first annual movie night with Temple City High's Cancer Club! For a small donation of $3, we will be enjoying My Sister's Keeper and providing lots of food! Movie night will be at Temple City High School; we will give more info next Tuesday. If you are planning to attend and have not signed up yet, please e-mail us with the # of tickets you will be needing!
• Tuesday- Thursday, February 16th-18th- Pennies for Patients: We will be handing out money boxes to everyone and on these three days, we would really appreciate everyone's effort of asking for donations out at the rally court during lunch. If you have not signed up for a day, please e-mail us with your name and your preferred day. Volunteer hours will be rewarded!
Please note:
• T-shirts: Our much awaited club t-shirts will be ordered this week!! There were some money problems that caused this delay, but they will be coming! Today, we sent around another sign-up sheet to finalize the number of shirts we need to order. If you are interested but have not signed up for this round, please e-mail us with your name and t-shirt size.
Keep these February events in mind; more will be coming soon!
See you!
Jenny

Meeting- 2/2/2010
Happy February everybody!
Here are some upcoming activities to look for:
- 2/19 Movie Night: Together with Temple City High's cancer club, we will be watching My Sister's Keeper from 6-9 PM. Tickets will be $3, but this will include food and drinks! This is a very worthwhile event and remember, all the money will be donated to American Cancer Society. This is the first movie night event, so come and take part!
- Pennies for Patients: In a couple weeks, we will be hosting this event right at the rally court at lunch time. We want everyone to walk around with money boxes provided by the Cancer Society and ask Arcadia High for their spare change. Any amount will make a big difference!
- Comedy Show: This event has been set for 3/26. Last year, this fundraiser was a huge hit! We had professional comedians hired and they made our tummies ache with laughter...till we fell over our seats in the Little Theater (hee-hee)! =) We will be asking you all to start selling tickets, so look forward to that!
If you guys have any fundraising ideas or club bonding activities to share, please let us know! E-mail us at hopecancurecancer@gmail.com!
See you next week,
Jenny

Meeting- 1/26/2010
Hi club members!
Here's a recap of this week's meeting...
- Pennies for Patients- Hopefully, in two weeks, from Tuesday to Friday, we will be conducting this event! It is where we walk around our campus at lunch time and ask Arcadia High to donate their spare change to the cancer society. Donations are not limited to pennies only- we accept all donations for our brave patients! So stay tuned for more information!
- Movie Night- We will be holding our first movie night event with Temple City High's cancer club! Exciting!! We are not certain on the date yet, but we are certain that we will be watching My Sister's Keeper! This will be a great way for us to bond with other members in our community who are also dedicated to helping cancer patients! So stay tuned on the date & time.
- Colleges Against Cancer- Elaine & Melody shared some really interesting news with us this week! From studies conducted at colleges, such as Stanford, it has been proven that those who have Alzheimers are less likely to have cancer, and vice versa... (not really a win win situation) but very interesting to know!
- Fundraiser- Do you guys have any ideas for fundraisers? We want to be able to raise as much money as we can to donate to the American Cancer Society during Relay for Life in June! As Team Hope, WE WANT TO STAND OUT IN OUR COMMUNITY! We have received some great ideas, such as HCCC bracelets, key chains, and landyards. If you guys have any suggestions, please e-mail us at hopecancurecancer@gmail.com, or you can leave a comment below! =)
See you guys next week! Thanks for coming to the first meeting of the second semester!
Until next week,
Jenny

Meeting- 1/5/2010
Welcome back everyone from winter break!
Today's recap:
• January is cervical cancer month. Beverly informed us all, especially the girls, about the causes for this cancer located near the uterus. Because the symptoms for this disease are imperceptible, it is very important for girls our age to receive the prevention shot in the near future. Let's all work to keep ourselves healthy! =)
• Alan has sent in the Yoplait lids to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. All together, our club collected over 200 lids. Great job, you guys!
• Because of money issues, we have been late this year in ordering our club t-shirts. However, they will be here soon. The prices have been finalized to $10 per shirt. Thanks for being so patient everyone!
Because of finals this month, we will not be having club meetings for the next two weeks. So, take advantage of this time to study up and get those A's! Good luck you guys!!
