Welcome to the new website for the Hope Can Cure Cancer Club everyone! Let me start off by introducing our club and its principles. In the HCCC Club, we participate in fundraisers, holiday activities, annual events, and much more to promote cancer awareness. Listed below are brief descriptions of events and activities that will be held during the school year. To find out more information, come to the lunch meetings held each week at J-7!
Christmas Caroling:
For years, the members and officers of our club has sung Christmas carols in friendly neighborhoods to raise donations for cancer patients. The donations are spent on individual gifts, which we personally deliver to cancer patients in the Methodist Hospital or the City of Hope. More information, including the time and location of the event, will be discussed in our lunch meetings held weekly in J-7.
Daffodil Days:
Each year, our club hosts a fundraiser where daffodil grams are sold to raise donations for the American Cancer Society. Students and teachers can purchase daffodil grams from club officers and members. The recipeints will receive the daffodil gram, consisting of one or more daffodil(s) and an attached personal note, some time during third period.
Guest Speaker:
In order to help skeptical club members fully grasp the true hardships of being diagnosed with cancer, the HCCC Club has requested guest speakers who have survived cancer to come in during meetings and share their experience. This personal confrontation is a rewarding experience as the members will learn to understand the difficulty of the survival process. Don't miss this rare opportunity. Come by J-7 on Tuesdays for more information.
Holiday Cards:
Every few weeks prior to a holiday, club members fabricate hand-made holiday cards to bring smiles to the faces of cancer patients. On the day of celebration, the holiday cards are personally delivered to cancer patients at the Methodist Hospital and/or City of Hope. This event is not only a superb way of earning volunteer hours, but is also a fun and effective way of making a difference in someone's life.
Locks of Love:
Long Hair. Free, stylish haircut. Add the two together and you get a nice new haircut, free of charge. The Locks of Love is an annual event where salons willingly volunteer to help collect hair for cancer patients. The hair is sent to the American Cancer Society, where they are made into high-quality wigs for those diagnosed with cancer. After going through chemotherapy, a cancer patient often loses most or all of his/her hair. Cancer patients should have to deal with the cost of expensive wigs, especially after having to cope with the already-high medical expenses. By donating your unwanted hair, you receive a boost of personal merit, a nice appearance, and the satisfaction of knowing that you made a difference in someone's life. It's not too late if you currently have short hair, start saving now!
Relay For Life:
The Relay For Life is an annual event held at the Santa Anita Racetrack where thousands of people from all across the world gather to help promote cancer awareness. The fun and worthwhile event lasts a full 24 hours, and is held some time in June. To learn more, come by J-7 on Tuesdays.
Yogurt Lid Boxes:
Each fall, starting from October (National Breast Cancer Awareness Month), Yoplait Yogurt holds a fundraiser where ten cents is donated to the Komen G. Breast Cancer Foundation for each pink Yoplait Yogurt lid sent in. For the past few years, the HCCC Club has contributed thousands of pink lids, collected from club members and students just like you. To turn in your pink Yoplait Yogurt lids, or to find out more information regarding volunteer hours, come by J-7 during lunch on Tuesdays.
