Meeting- 1/26/2010

Hi club members!

Here's a recap of this week's meeting...

- Pennies for Patients- Hopefully, in two weeks, from Tuesday to Friday, we will be conducting this event! It is where we walk around our campus at lunch time and ask Arcadia High to donate their spare change to the cancer society. Donations are not limited to pennies only- we accept all donations for our brave patients! So stay tuned for more information!

- Movie Night- We will be holding our first movie night event with Temple City High's cancer club! Exciting!! We are not certain on the date yet, but we are certain that we will be watching My Sister's Keeper! This will be a great way for us to bond with other members in our community who are also dedicated to helping cancer patients! So stay tuned on the date & time.

- Colleges Against Cancer- Elaine & Melody shared some really interesting news with us this week! From studies conducted at colleges, such as Stanford, it has been proven that those who have Alzheimers are less likely to have cancer, and vice versa... (not really a win win situation) but very interesting to know!

- Fundraiser- Do you guys have any ideas for fundraisers? We want to be able to raise as much money as we can to donate to the American Cancer Society during Relay for Life in June! As Team Hope, WE WANT TO STAND OUT IN OUR COMMUNITY! We have received some great ideas, such as HCCC bracelets, key chains, and landyards. If you guys have any suggestions, please e-mail us at hopecancurecancer@gmail.com, or you can leave a comment below! =)

See you guys next week! Thanks for coming to the first meeting of the second semester!

Until next week,

Jenny

Meeting- 1/5/2010

Welcome back everyone from winter break!

Today's recap:

• January is cervical cancer month. Beverly informed us all, especially the girls, about the causes for this cancer located near the uterus. Because the symptoms for this disease are imperceptible, it is very important for girls our age to receive the prevention shot in the near future. Let's all work to keep ourselves healthy! =)

• Alan has sent in the Yoplait lids to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. All together, our club collected over 200 lids. Great job, you guys!

• Because of money issues, we have been late this year in ordering our club t-shirts. However, they will be here soon. The prices have been finalized to $10 per shirt. Thanks for being so patient everyone!

Because of finals this month, we will not be having club meetings for the next two weeks. So, take advantage of this time to study up and get those A's! Good luck you guys!!
