Meeting- 10/27/09

Hi everyone!

We started off our meeting this Tuesday sharing with each other our feelings about Walk for Hope. Our officers all thought the event was inspiring and lots of fun with many free goodies! Thanks to those that came to the event this year to support Pink Apaches- we hope you'll make this an annual event!

Secondly, designs for our new t-shirt are due next Tuesday! Again, any appropriate design is welcomed, so share with us your creativity!

The new announcement this week is that we are planning on a club hiking day for the month of November out at Chantry Flats. We have not decided on a specific time, but know that it will be on the weekend of November 14 or 15. Please plan out your schedule so that you can join us to not only get active, but to also meet new friends and bond with fellow club members!

Lastly, thank you so much to Sarah Eagle, a representative from the American Cancer Society, for coming to talk to us this week! For those who missed out, Sarah gave us an idea of where our fundraised money goes towards as well as some events that the ACS has supported, including our very own comedy show! Watch out for that in the second semester everyone!

* Reminders
• Keep bringing in Yoplait lids! Thank you so, so much to all of you who have brought in bags of them. We have a great number of lids to send in so far, and hopefully we can receive more to donate more money to the Susan G. Komen foundation!

See you guys!
-Jenny

2. Halloween Cards

Halloween is coming up! It's a club tradition that every Halloween, club members make cards to give to patients. Simply get construction paper, markers, colored pencils (anything!) and write messages to the patients! Let them feel spooked! =) For example, "Listen for the witch's cackle tonight" or simply "Happy Halloween!"

We will not be making cards at our meetings this year, but it would be great if you guys could take some time to share your Halloween spirits with others! Remember 3 cards = 1 volunteer hour. Please turn the cards in by next Tuesday, 10/27!

3. T-Shirt Designs
O creative ones--we are looking for t-shirt designs! There are no limits to the design as long as it is appropriate for our club! Remember, our goal is to keep the shirts at $10/ person. So try to limit yourself to 2-3 colors. Please turn in your designs ASAP! We can't wait to see them!

Again, if you have any questions, please e-mail us at hopecancurecancer@gmail.com!

See you!
Jenny

Meeting- 10/13/09

Hello all! We have exciting information to share!

First, though, here's a quick update. As previously mentioned, every month there is a cancer activity, and October is Breast Cancer Month! In commercials and out at the markets, you may have seen the pink breast cancer ribbon on certain products. One product we want you guys to keep looking out for is yogurt with pink Yoplait lids! Thank you to those who brought in some today. Remember, this activity runs through December, so keep eating, collecting, and bringing them in!

Now, exciting information time! Next Sunday, 10/25/09, is our club's first big event- Walk for Hope! This activity, held at the City of Hope, is a day where fun, healthiness, and awareness is promoted! The event is from 8AM-12PM and for $25, not only will you be able to walk with your friends, but there are fun booths, gifts, and snacks to look out for! Interested? Well, to sign up, either log onto walkforhope.org/la and sign up under our team-Pink Apaches- or come get a pamphlet at next week's meeting. To sign up online, press "Register Now" and then "Join a Team." After your name is on our team's roster, you will be able to register for the event! Note that if you sign up online, you will be paying with credit card. We will be issuing volunteer hours for this event, so what are you waiting for?!

If you guys have any trouble signing up, or have any questions about the event or our club in general, feel free to e-mail us at hopecancurecancer@gmail.com!

We will see you next week!

Meeting- 10/6/09

Hello everyone and welcome to the 2009-2010 year of Hope Can Cure Cancer Club!

Today was our first Tuesday meeting in F-7 at lunch, and I hope everyone that came had a great time! For those who missed our first meeting, we introduced our club officers and gave a preview of the numerous events to come! Then, we played an ice breaker game (with a potato!) to get to know each other and munched on some healthy snacks!

There is a cancer activity every month! Starting from this month, yogurt with pink Yoplait lids will be surfacing at the markets. We want everyone to save up their yogurt lids and bring them in because for every lid we collect and send in, 10 cents is donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. So, eat up and "Save Lids to Save Lives!"

Next week, we will be informing you all about more activities, such as Walk for Hope later this month, so bring your lunch and come to F-7!

Happy October!
