Meeting- 12/15/09

Hi everybody!

Hope you are all having a marvelous, relaxing winter break! The officers would really like to thank each and everyone of you who went caroling Sunday at the Methodist Hospital! We hope it lifted your Christmas spirits to bring joy to others.

We also want to let you know that we are preparing to send in our Yoplait lids to the Susan G. Komen Foundation! Also, club shirts will be coming in January 2010! Listen out for information on those at the next meeting!

Again, have a safe winter break everyone! Eat lots of good food, sleep up those hours you were lacking, and make sure to get in some exercise! Have a great holiday season and have a great New Years! See you all back at school on January 4!

2010, here we come!

Meeting- 12/8/09

Hi club members!

This month is skin cancer awareness month! We started off the meeting with Elaine T. giving us a brief presentation about the cancer and ways to prevent it. Remember to always use sunblock with SPF 15 or higher when you do outdoor activities!

This Saturday is the Borders Gift Wrapping Event! Our club president, Melody, has e-mailed everyone to remind them about their shift. Please be on time, and have fun! Have fun wrapping and asking for donations. All the money we raise will be donated to the American Cancer Society!

See you next Tuesday for the final meeting of 2009!

Stay warm!
Jenny

Meeting- 12/1/09

Happy December everyone!

Notes:
• Because we have wait for ASB to let us withdraw our club money, there will be a slight delay in club t-shirts. Instead of coming early December, they might come later on this month or even early January. We're really sorry about that, but keep listening out for those as we will update you frequently!

• On Saturday, 12/12/09 we are going to have a Borders Gift Wrapping event! You can sign up for whichever shift you would like. The times range from early in the morning until 9 PM when the mall closes. If you are interested, but have not signed up, feel free to sign up at the next meeting or e-mail us at hopecancurecancer@gmail.com with your name and the time you are available. (ie. Jenny: 4 PM-6PM). During the event, we will be asking for donations, so that we can donate this money to the American Cancer Society!

Guest Speaker
• Last spring, HCCC had its first (and very successful) comedy show in our very own Little Theater! At this week's meeting, the rep from the American Cancer Society came to get us all hyped for the 2010 show! There were some really great and well-known (and cute! =P) comedians last year!! Next year, we are planning to have this show in April, and we want everyone to participate in selling tickets! Not only will you have a great night but you will be doing a great deed as all the money goes to the Cancer Society. So, get excited for that!

As usual, thanks for coming to this week's meeting everyone! See you next week!

(I put a picture of one of last year's comedians-HILARIOUS!)

• Club Shirts will arrive soon! Listen out for that and when to pay the $10.
• Keep eating yogurt and bringing in those pink lids! Remember, we will be gathering lids all throughout December, before we leave for break!

Other than that, get ready for December the HCCC way! ;)
See you Tuesday, 12/1 at lunch in F-7!

Meeting- 11/17/09

Hola everyone!

We want to remind all club members once again about t-shirt sign ups. If you guys want a t-shirt but have not signed up, please e-mail us: hopecancurecancer@gmail.com (with your shirt size.) The shirts will probably be here early December and most likely be $10 a piece. So, watch out for those!

This week, we made Thanksgiving cards for the Methodist Hospital patients! Thanks everyone for spending time to show your "turkey-spirit!" If you guys would still like to make cards, please bring them in at next week's meeting! That way, we can deliver them to the hospital in time for Thanksgiving!
Remember, 3 cards = 1 volunteer hour.

All of us club officers would really like to thank you guys for contributing to the success of our club this year! Feel free to continue bringing new friends and keep spreading the word about our club!

Next week, we are doing something really special, so you definitely don't want to miss out! You can help contribute to this "special event" by bringing in your favorite bag of snacks or even your favorite dish! Whatever it is, remember to join us next Tuesday in F-7!

See you all,
Jenny

Meeting- 11/10/09

Hi club members!

We covered lots of information at this week's meeting. Here's a recap...

I. Hiking
Location: Monrovia Canyon Park- Monrovia Falls (1.5 miles)
1201 N Canyon Blvd, Monrovia, CA 91016
When: Sunday, November 14
Time: 8:30 AM- around 11 AM

If you signed up for a ride, please meet at the school parking lot near El Monte between 8:05 AM-8:10 AM. We will be organizing the transportation at that time. If your parents can give rides, please ask them to be at the parking lot. That way, everyone can go up there at once and we can avoid multiple trips. Thank you guys so much!

II. T-Shirts
We have decided on a t-shirt design! Yay! It is a very beautiful and intricate design drawn by Christina that we hope can be printed soon and delivered to all of us. Thank you so much to Candela, Sally, and Alan for contributing your designs. They were truly all wonderful! Save those designs up for next year you three!
If you have not signed up for a t-shirt yet, please e-mail us at hopecancurecancer@gmail.com with your name and t-shirt size (adult sizes). We are hoping to keep the shirts at $10 a piece!

At the meeting this week, we introduced you guys to the "No Smoking" event held by the American Cancer Society. Hopefully you guys all received a pencil and were inspired to tell your loved ones to quit smoking!

IV. Reminders
Thanksgiving Cards- Thank you to those who turned some in at this week's meeting! They were so creative and I'm sure the patients will love it! We will be making cards as a club on 11/24/09, but it's great if you guys could get started and bring them in! Remember, 3 cards= 1 volunteer hour.
Yoplait Lids- Remember, we wil be accepting pink yogurt lids all the way through December, before we leave for winter break! Keep eating yogurt and bringing the lids in! Think: Save Lids to Save Lives!

That's about it for this week! See you guys out on the trail Sunday morning!

Meeting- 11/3/09

Hello everyone!

So...it has been decided! We are going hiking as a club Sunday, November 15 at 7 AM!
More information will be enclosed in the club e-mails regarding location and items to bring.
If you will need a ride that morning to the Santa Anita mountains, please let us know, either through e-mail or through a sign-up sheet that we will pass around at next week's meeting. (Our e-mail is hopecancurecancer@gmail.com) For those that can give rides, please let us know! There will be a parking fee for the parents that want to attend this event. We will speak more about this next week, but keep note of the date for now!

Last week, we mentioned that t-shirt designs will be due at the next meeting. However, we have decided to postpone the date to next Tuesday (11/10/09). So, please remember to bring in a sketch of your design because we will be voting next week. Don't miss out!

Lastly, for you ambitious ones, get started with Thanksgiving cards! For those who turned in Halloween cards, thank you so, so much! You guys definitely brought smiles and spooks to the patients! We will be spending a Tuesday making Thanksgiving cards as a club, but it won't hurt to get started now!

See you guys next Tuesday! Remember your t-shirt designs!

Meeting- 10/27/09

Hi everyone!

We started off our meeting this Tuesday sharing with each other our feelings about Walk for Hope. Our officers all thought the event was inspiring and lots of fun with many free goodies! Thanks to those that came to the event this year to support Pink Apaches- we hope you'll make this an annual event!

Secondly, designs for our new t-shirt are due next Tuesday! Again, any appropriate design is welcomed, so share with us your creativity!

The new announcement this week is that we are planning on a club hiking day for the month of November out at Chantry Flats. We have not decided on a specific time, but know that it will be on the weekend of November 14 or 15. Please plan out your schedule so that you can join us to not only get active, but to also meet new friends and bond with fellow club members!

Lastly, thank you so much to Sarah Eagle, a representative from the American Cancer Society, for coming to talk to us this week! For those who missed out, Sarah gave us an idea of where our fundraised money goes towards as well as some events that the ACS has supported, including our very own comedy show! Watch out for that in the second semester everyone!

* Reminders
• Keep bringing in Yoplait lids! Thank you so, so much to all of you who have brought in bags of them. We have a great number of lids to send in so far, and hopefully we can receive more to donate more money to the Susan G. Komen foundation!

See you guys!
-Jenny

Meeting- 10/6/09

Hello everyone and welcome to the 2009-2010 year of Hope Can Cure Cancer Club!

Today was our first Tuesday meeting in F-7 at lunch, and I hope everyone that came had a great time! For those who missed our first meeting, we introduced our club officers and gave a preview of the numerous events to come! Then, we played an ice breaker game (with a potato!) to get to know each other and munched on some healthy snacks!

There is a cancer activity every month! Starting from this month, yogurt with pink Yoplait lids will be surfacing at the markets. We want everyone to save up their yogurt lids and bring them in because for every lid we collect and send in, 10 cents is donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. So, eat up and "Save Lids to Save Lives!"

Next week, we will be informing you all about more activities, such as Walk for Hope later this month, so bring your lunch and come to F-7!

Happy October!

Hey everyone!

Yesterday was our last meeting of the year and I hope you all had a great time! Thanks to all our officers for preparing the potluck! In addition to registering, you will also need to fill out a waiver form- please seek the officers for one! Also, you can choose to stay overnight for Relay for Life. Feel free to ask any officers or e-mail us at hopecancurecancer@gmail.com if you have any questions.

A few meetings ago, we passed out a white Relay for Life donations envelope. Please remember to keep fundraising- our goal is $100 for each member!

Once again, thank you all for your participation in our club. We hope you found our club meaningful and will return next year with a bunch of friends!

Meeting - 4/28/09

Hi there!

Congrats to Alan Kha, our 2009-2010 HCCCC ICC Representative!

Today, we talked a bit about Relay for Life- the event that's going to take place on June 27th to June 28th at the Santa Anita Racetrack!

http://www.relayforlife.org/arcadiaca

Search "Hope" and join our team (the captain is currently Vivy Tran, just to make sure).
If you have any questions, email us at hopecancurecancer@gmail.com

Also, we didn't exactly have enough time to finish elections this week, so join us next week (May 6th) for the last three candidates. Try to remember the people who went today! They were Beverly Chen, Jenny Wei, and Kevin Chien.

Because Vivy and Christine won't be able to make it next week due to AP exams, Melody and I will take the wheel next time =)

Have a nice week!
-Elaine

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

Meeting - 4/21/09

Hey everyone!

This week we held ICC representative meetings, and the two candidates were Alan Kha and Jenny Wei. Good luck to those two, we'll find out who won soon!

Unfortunately, we won't be doing Pennies for Patients this year because that event conflicts with Interact Club's Penny Wars. Better luck next time!

Lastly, our most important fundraiser of the year is creeping up- Relay For Life! Be sure to save the date - JUNE 27TH-28TH, 2009, at the Santa Anita Racetrack. We will keep you guys updated with more information at the next meeting, as well as by e-mail, so check your e-mail =)

Oh, and think about signing up for Relay For Life online soon- the website is http://relayforlife.org/arcadiaca
If you're unsure about anything, contact an officer, or you can wait until next week so we can officially inform everyone.

As this year is coming to a close, think about how much fun you've had in our club this year, and do consider coming back next year- with even more friends!

See you next week,
-Elaine

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Meeting - 4/14/09

Hey,

Today's meeting was pretty simple- Comedy Show wrap up, money counting, Pennies for Patients notifications (we'll update you on the event soon!), and activities commissioner elections.

Congrats to Elaine Tsui, our 2009-2010 HCCCC treasurer, and congrats Lily Chen, our 2009-2010 HCCCC activities commissioner!

The Comedy Show was a success- we made over $1000! We hope next year we can make even more, so be sure to join in the club for next year!

See you next week =)
-Elaine

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Meeting - 3/31/09

Heya,

Today we held Treasurer elections; Lily Chen, Elaine Tsui, and Jenny Wei ran; we'll find out the results soon! Check your email or wait until after spring break for the results.

And congrats to Irene Liu, our 2009-2010 HCCC Secretary!

Also, we tallied up the tickets sold so far- 160! Yay, go team! Let's sell the rest by Friday =)
If you guys can, meet us in the Little Theater on Friday so that we can set up for the Comedy Show.

Oh, and there will be no club meeting next week obviously, because it's spring break. But if you want community service hours, make Easter cards for cancer patients! It's as usual, 3 cards for an hour. Bring them to Vivy or Christine by Friday.

Next next week we'll hold elections for the Activities Commissioner position. Be prepared if you want to run!

See you soon and have a nice break!
-Elaine

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Meeting - 3/24/09

Hi everyone,

A basic recap of what we did today:

-We went over things for the comedy show, like passing out tickets and posting posters (well, Vivy did that xD). Each member should try to sell 5 tickets, and each officer should try to sell 10. If you can't sell them all, don't worry about it, but please try!

-We talked about club day: this coming Thursday, club day will be held near the J-Building. Our booth is #18, so look for us! We'll be on the right side of the J-Building walkway. Wear your club shirts, bring your comedy show tickets, and spread the cause =)

-Lastly, we held secretary elections. There were about 5 candidates (I can't really remember all their names, sorry!) and we'll see who gets the spot. Check your email or wait until next Tuesday for the results!

Oh, and the co-presidents for HCCC for the 2009-2010 school year are Melody Wong and me, bahaha. Great job to everyone who ran! We encourage you to run for other positions as well!

Enjoy your week and see you on Thursday~
-Elaine

Friday, March 20, 2009

Meeting - 3/20/09

Heyyyy,

Today was an abnormal meeting day, for those of you who missed it xD We had to meet on Friday because of ASB issues.

Anyway, our comedy show is confirmed on April 3rd- and we're getting the tickets done so all of us can sell. We'd like you all to sell 10 tickets or something, because this is a great fundraiser for our club! =) And the show will be loads of fun.

Co-president elections were also today. Our five candidates were: Melody Wong, Elaine Hsiang (that's me OMG!), Jenny Wu (thanks Brenda), Roy Niu, and Sally Chung. Check your e-mail or wait until Tuesday for your 09-10 HCCCC Co-presidents!

Secretary elections may or may not be held next week. Check your e-mail in case Christine tells us! We'll be putting up posters and handling tickets next week (as well as getting ready for club day), so we're all going to be busy busy.

Have a nice weekend!
-Elaine

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Meeting - 3/10/09

Hi =)

As you all probably know, our meeting today was about officer elections (for the most part). We'll be starting elections next week for the position of Co-President. Today we decided that they will be two co-presidents next year ^^ So if you want to run, make sure you show up. And yes, if you're running for any position, you must give a short speech.

Also, next month, as Christine said, we'll probably do some fundraising via Pennies for Patients. It's an event where we go around at lunch and collect money.

Like I promised last week... the Comedy Show will be held on Friday, April 3rd, 2009 at 7 pm in the Little Theater. Tickets will be $7. Members are expected to sell 5 tickets. Officers need to sell 10. Please, please, please try to sell those tickets when you get them!

Enjoy your week,
-Elaine

Tuesday, March 03, 2009

Meeting - 3/3/09

HI THERE,

Today we just talked about a few of the upcoming events we have for the club:

-We'll be selling Comedy Show tickets for $7 soon;
-We'll be putting up posters probably next week for health awareness around the school,
-We'll have officer elections soon

...and more.

Regarding the Comedy Show, I'll post up the info later because I'm not entirely sure on when/where it is.

For officer elections, if you want to run for a position, you need to sign up next week.
The positions are: President/Co-President, Vice President (only if there is one President), Secretary, Treasurer, Activities Commissioner, Publicity Commissioner, Historian, ICC Representative, and Webmaster (yay that's me!). Think it over, and we hope you sign up!

Next week we'll also determine whether we'll have two co-presidents or just one president and one vice.

Oh, and club day is coming up- it's at the end of March, so hope you get out and spread the word!

Have a nice week doods,
-Elaine

Meeting - 2/24/09

Hi guys.

Another meeting today =) Full of information as always.
Sooo, our comedy show is going to be April 3rd, 2009. We'll be selling tickets for probably $7, so yeah, prepare to get your salesperson on...... -.-

Also, we take club pictures probably next week! Wear your club t-shirts on Tuesday! Look pretty! Smile!

Aaaand, talk to the club officers/presidents if you still want to be a part of Daffodil Days (remember, it's where you get money donations to buy daffodils for cancer patients). It's a great cause, so please consider taking part!

Lastly, we know NHS meetings are coming up, so we'll get your hours to you next week. Contact the presidents if you have any questions (email: hopecancurecancerclub@yahoo.com).

Have a great week!
-Elaine

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Meeting - 2/17/09

Hey again =)

Alright, so we've got a few events coming up now...

-Daffodil Days: This event is where you ask for donations of money; the money is used to buy daffodils for cancer patients (to bring them joy and hope!). If you're interested in this, it's not too late to talk to Vivy or Christine!

-Comedy show: Our ACS (American Cancer Society) comedy show is confirmed- we'll be doing that probably in late February or March (I'm not sure). More details will be posted later, but the basic thing is that each member will be selling tickets for probably $7 a pop!

-Battle of the Bands: Every year HCCCC collaborates with the show to raise money for cancer awareness- and this year we're doing it again! We'll be helping to sell tickets for around $5-7 each. So stay tuned, we'll update with more info later.

Have a great week!
-Elaine

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Meeting - 2/10/09

Hey everyone!!!!!

After a long, long "break", we're going to finally keep meeting every week. So be there every Tuesday for HCCCC meetings unless we email you otherwise.

So today we made Valentine's Day cards for cancer patients; also, we had two guests that told us about an upcoming comedy show we can attend to raise money for cancer awareness. It's a great idea, so be prepared to sell tickets! We're probably going to host it at the Little Theater, on either Friday evening or Saturday- but we're not sure, so we'll keep you posted.

Tickets will probably sell for around $7.

See you next week!
-Elaine

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Meeting - 1/13/09

Hey all~

Happy late new year! Today we simply talked about what went on in the past few weeks (caroling, etc.) and what's coming up.

Next Friday, as Laura mentioned, there will be an opportunity to earn more volunteer hours if you need to- campus cleanup. It takes place next Friday (the 23rd) starting from 3pm at school. We'll keep you posted with more details.

Also, for the next 2 weeks, there won't be HCCCC meetings, since it's dead week time (where clubs aren't supposed to meet because of finals). So, try not to cry, and good luck on your finals!

-Elaine
