October 23rd, 2007

Greetings yet again!
Today's meeting was strictly informational, but I hope you guys understand that we have a lot to do coming up!
So, let's start out with the generally more fun announcements.
Since Halloween is coming up real quick, we will be having a HALLOWEEN FEAST at the next meeting! Feel free to bring in foods that relate to cancer, more preferably foods that have ingredients that prevent cancer in some way. If you are participating, please remember to bring in some article describing how the food helps prevent cancer~ REMEMBER--the more the participation, the more the fun. Really. I am not kidding.
While the Halloween spirit is still here, you guys can still make wonderful HALLOWEEN CARDS for the cancer patients at the Methodist Hospital and the City of Hope. Volunteer hours will be given (I believe 1 hour for 3 cards?), but please, try to really put some effort and heart into these cards! Now, you wouldn't want to receive a crummy card for Halloween, would you? *remember to write something inside of the card! Anything like "happy halloween" is fine, but it would be great if you got down and put use to all those creative juices in you...!*
and Yes, we will be selling T-shirts this year~ if you still have some creativity in you after all those Halloween cards, make a design for our CLUB T-SHIRT! What is a better way of publicizing your artistic talent than having 20 something students wearing it on their shirts? Please turn in your designs as soon as possible~!
Remember to collect those PINK YOGURT LIDS~ Yoplait will donate 10 cents to the Susan G Komen Foundation for every lid collected. A little work every day could make a HUGE difference. Believe it.
Having talked with the officers, we have decided on possible FUNDRAISER ideas, but we still need your help. Got any more ideas? find an officer or comment!

woOH Long post, huh? But I hope you enjoyed reading it. really.
Any Questions? email hopecancurecancerclub@yahoo.com or simply comment on the blog!
See you guys next week at our Halloween party!

Meeting 10.9.07

Heeellloooo again
Good seeing you guys again this past Tuesday! SO did you enjoy meeting all the other members?
If you are an older member, this year has started out a little different, hasn't it?
Set by all of the officers this year is the goal to get to know all of you guys as members and as people--more than just a face. At the previous meeting, we went around introducing friends to the club, which, I believe, is a great start to knowing you better! Keep it up!
Now back on track to the announcements:
-Again, if you requested volunteer hours, please come by and pick it up again--the one you picked op two weeks ago has an error in the date. Thanks.
-Cards. Hey, if you have some time on our hands, why don't you devote it to making card for patients at the hospital? Like the examples shown during the meeting, we would like if you found a poem focused on the topic of cancer/hope and print it with a warm, colorful background. If you complete a number of cards, you may receive some volunteer hours--but remember, try to put as much heart and effort into every card!! These are cards that will be given out to actual people, so try to imagine how they would like a card.

I guess that pretty much wraps things up!
I look forward to meeting you again next Tuesday!

Welcome Back!

Hi!
Welcome back to the 2007-08 school year! We hope you had a great summer!
Our first meeting took place this Tuesday, and we were so glad that many of you were able to come and participate in our little trivia game! For all of you that weren't able to make it, here is the rundown of everything we did that day!
After introducing you guys to all of our officers, we played the trivia game, which was meant to let you guys know just how much about cancer you really know. We hope you had fun, but if you have any suggestions, feel free to let us know!
In brief, this year will be great. We will participate in events such as Christmas Caroling, Daffodil Days, and Relay for Life. These are the bigger events; in between we will make holiday cards for the cancer patients at the Methodist Hospital, participate in various fundraisers, watch Patch Adams (finally!), throw cancer-busting food parties, and most of all, HAVE FUN!
*if you were a member last year and have volunteer hours, please come back to pick up the certificate (the ones you got last Tuesday are incorrect). Sorry for the inconvenience.

We welcome you back to the Hope Can Cure Cancer Club.

See you every Tuesdays!
