December 2nd 2007

Hey Guys!
Okay so here is what is going on in our club so far:
The Orchesis teacher came in last week to invite us to join Orchesis in their Christmas/charity show that will take place on the 20th of December. Because she will be donating half of the proceeds to the American Cancer Society, she wants up to participate in the finale of the show in which we, from the audience, will get up on stage and stand next to the performer. I am not really clear on the details of what we will have to do or how we will be organized, but there will be a rehearsal the day before on the 19th after school that we will have to attend. More details on this later.
Coming up is Christmas, so there are plenty of opportunities for you to contribute to the feel of this occasion. You can, as always, create Holiday cards for the cancer patients. Please remember to write "Happy Holidays" as opposed to "Merry Christmas" and try to stay away from religious symbols. Thanks
During break, the officers will be meeting to count the pink yogurt lids so you still have time to collect them and turn them in in j-7. 10 cents will be donated to the American Cancer Society for every lid turned in. Thanks for helping out.
It is sort of far away from now but you guys can start thinking about what to bring to our Christmas Party. It would be fantastic if all of you guys participate--there will be more food for everyone all around, which is much better for than just the officers who bring in food. If you decide to participate, please remember to also bring in an article that explains how your food helps prevent cancer in some way. It doesnt take a lot of effort contribute to the Holiday spirit.
Thanks!
Serena

Meeting

Hey Guys!
Just a few quick reminders as you guys are having a great 4 day weekend:
You can still earn volunteer hours by making November Holiday cards! These cards will be given to the cancer patients at the Methodist Hospital on Thanksgiving Day, and please remember to write something inside of the cards, such as "Happy Thanksgiving" or that sort. I am sure those patients would be really delighted to get our cards!
We are still collecting pink yoplait yogurt lids so if you have some time handy, make some yogurt boxes we could put around in classrooms to help collect these lids. Although they are not worth much material wise, they are very meaningful and can make a great difference. For every pink lid collected, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Every Lid Counts!
For those who were not able to attend the last meeting, we held a voting for our club T shirt!

That all for now!
See you guys next week!
Have a great 4 day weekend!

October 23rd, 2007

Greetings yet again!
Today's meeting was strictly informational, but I hope you guys understand that we have a lot to do coming up!
So, let's start out with the generally more fun announcements.
Since Halloween is coming up real quick, we will be having a HALLOWEEN FEAST at the next meeting! Feel free to bring in foods that relate to cancer, more preferably foods that have ingredients that prevent cancer in some way. If you are participating, please remember to bring in some article describing how the food helps prevent cancer~ REMEMBER--the more the participation, the more the fun. Really. I am not kidding.
While the Halloween spirit is still here, you guys can still make wonderful HALLOWEEN CARDS for the cancer patients at the Methodist Hospital and the City of Hope. Volunteer hours will be given (I believe 1 hour for 3 cards?), but please, try to really put some effort and heart into these cards! Now, you wouldn't want to receive a crummy card for Halloween, would you? *remember to write something inside of the card! Anything like "happy halloween" is fine, but it would be great if you got down and put use to all those creative juices in you...!*
and Yes, we will be selling T-shirts this year~ if you still have some creativity in you after all those Halloween cards, make a design for our CLUB T-SHIRT! What is a better way of publicizing your artistic talent than having 20 something students wearing it on their shirts? Please turn in your designs as soon as possible~!
Remember to collect those PINK YOGURT LIDS~ Yoplait will donate 10 cents to the Susan G Komen Foundation for every lid collected. A little work every day could make a HUGE difference. Believe it.
Having talked with the officers, we have decided on possible FUNDRAISER ideas, but we still need your help. Got any more ideas? find an officer or comment!

woOH Long post, huh? But I hope you enjoyed reading it. really.
Any Questions? email hopecancurecancerclub@yahoo.com or simply comment on the blog!
See you guys next week at our Halloween party!

Meeting 10.9.07

Heeellloooo again
Good seeing you guys again this past Tuesday! SO did you enjoy meeting all the other members?
If you are an older member, this year has started out a little different, hasn't it?
Set by all of the officers this year is the goal to get to know all of you guys as members and as people--more than just a face. At the previous meeting, we went around introducing friends to the club, which, I believe, is a great start to knowing you better! Keep it up!
Now back on track to the announcements:
-Again, if you requested volunteer hours, please come by and pick it up again--the one you picked op two weeks ago has an error in the date. Thanks.
-Cards. Hey, if you have some time on our hands, why don't you devote it to making card for patients at the hospital? Like the examples shown during the meeting, we would like if you found a poem focused on the topic of cancer/hope and print it with a warm, colorful background. If you complete a number of cards, you may receive some volunteer hours--but remember, try to put as much heart and effort into every card!! These are cards that will be given out to actual people, so try to imagine how they would like a card.

I guess that pretty much wraps things up!
I look forward to meeting you again next Tuesday!

Welcome Back!

Hi!
Welcome back to the 2007-08 school year! We hope you had a great summer!
Our first meeting took place this Tuesday, and we were so glad that many of you were able to come and participate in our little trivia game! For all of you that weren't able to make it, here is the rundown of everything we did that day!
After introducing you guys to all of our officers, we played the trivia game, which was meant to let you guys know just how much about cancer you really know. We hope you had fun, but if you have any suggestions, feel free to let us know!
In brief, this year will be great. We will participate in events such as Christmas Caroling, Daffodil Days, and Relay for Life. These are the bigger events; in between we will make holiday cards for the cancer patients at the Methodist Hospital, participate in various fundraisers, watch Patch Adams (finally!), throw cancer-busting food parties, and most of all, HAVE FUN!
*if you were a member last year and have volunteer hours, please come back to pick up the certificate (the ones you got last Tuesday are incorrect). Sorry for the inconvenience.

We welcome you back to the Hope Can Cure Cancer Club.

See you every Tuesdays!

Happy Birthday Shane!

Heya fellow club members!

As you all know, we had a club meeting today (April 17th, 2007). During today's meeting, a short video centered on optimistic opinions about donations was displayed. Last week, our club started a new donation project called Pennies For Patients, which is basically a collection of loose change and small donations from fellow classmates and teachers. Each club member was given a cardboard box to collect the donations, which will be totaled with the donations gathered by other club members and donated as a lump sum after the project is over. If you have not yet picked up a donation box, please do so during the next meeting.

For those of you who missed today's meeting, please come to the next club meeting. We will be watching Patch Adam's during the first 20 or so minutes of lunch. We will also begin passing our Relay For Life registration and permission forms, so please come!

Last, but not least, our club may begin a Birthday Card project. We are currently resarching a universal project for the sake of a 7 year-old darling boy affected with cancer by the name of Shane Bernier. Shane's birthday is on the upcmong May 30th, and his wish is for people to send him birthday cards so that he may beat the Guinness World Record. More information will be provided on whether or not our club will participate in this project in the next few weeks!

That's it for now! See you guys next week!

Christina

Update!

Hello guys and girls! Here is the overview of today's meeting for those who did not attend! As you all know, or should know, the Relay For Life event is coming up very soon! For preparations, we invited a representative from the Relay For Life committee, Shrestha Madaan, to talk with us today. Basically, Ms. Madaan talked about the activities in the event and answered a few questions regarding the purpose and happenings of the event. She will be attending every meeting for the next few weeks to keep us updated on the Relay For Life event, so please attend the next few meetings for vital information! Moving on. Here are some coming-up events and activities:

Easter Cards: Okay! Easter is coming up very soon! For those of you who want to earn volunteer hours, now is the time to seize the opportunity! Easter is on the Sunday of spring break, which means cards need to be turned in to an officer before Friday! We are rewarding one volunteer hour for every three HANDMADE abd NICELY-DECORATED card! So, keep the cards coming!

Pennies For Patients: The Pennies for Patients is a volunteer activity in which members of the Hope Can Cure Cancer Club carry around a petite paper box and collect loose change and donations for the American Cancer Society. The donations will be added to our club account and donated as a lump sum to the American Cancer Society at the end of the year! This is one of our most successful activities as we collected nearly $3,000 last year!

Patch Adams: For those of you who often skip meetings, think about your actions twice! After spring break, our club will be showing "Patch Adams" during the lunch meetings for a few weeks. This sentimental movie is not only entertaining to watch, but also relates to cancer.

That about wraps up today's meeting! For answers to questions, don't be afraid to email us at hopecancurecancer@yahoo*com! (Change the * to a period! I'm doing this to prevent bots from sending junk mail to our yahoo account!)

Sincerely,
Christina (Webmaster)

P.S. Have a fun and exciting spring break you guys! Remember to have fun!

Alright, let's get straight to the facts! The club picture for the yearbook will be taken on Tuesday (February 27, 2007). All members are expected to arrive in front of J-7 at the very beginning of lunch. For those of you who have already gotten a club T-shirt, please wear it to the club meeting on picture day! For those who paid for T-shirts last year and have not gotten one this year, you may either buy a T-shirt for only three dollars or request a full refund.

Special Announcement: Yay! Thanks to Amy She, our club has finally gotten club T-shirts for the first time in the history of the Hope Can Cure Cancer Club! Please make this year a memorable year for future club members by proudly wearing your shirt on Tuesday!

Coming Events: Our club will soon be having a candy-sale fundraiser event to raise money for our annual donation to the American Cancer Society! For more information, visit J-7 on the coming-up Tuesday.

Okay, I think I covered everything! If you have any questions or concerns, we will be more than happy to answer them during the meeting or via email!

Snapshot: Alright! Last, but not least, we have here a picture from our caroling event in 2006! Doesn't it look fun? :D It sure was! If you missed the opportunity to join us in our carols last year, make sure you come join us this year!
